Black & White

Black and white has always fascinated me because it asks us to look beyond the obvious. By removing colour, what remains are form, light, texture, contrast, gesture, and emotion, the essential elements that shape how we experience an image or object.

For this exhibition, I wanted to bring together artists whose practices demonstrate that monochrome is not a limitation but a language capable of communicating powerful ideas. While each artist approaches this language differently, their works encourage us to slow down, observe more carefully, and discover meaning in what is often overlooked. I selected Abiola Sanni, Elizabeth Asuelimen, Ezekiel Ogundipe, Hammed Opeyemi Bello, Ibrahim Bello, Ifeoluwa Makinde, Olamide Bakare, Onifade P. Oluwafemi, Segun Ogunleye, and Vivian Osuagwu because their practices reflect the diversity of contemporary artistic expression while remaining united by a shared ability to tell compelling stories without relying on colour.

Together, their works reveal that monochrome is not the absence of colour but the presence of clarity, inviting viewers to engage more deeply with ideas, emotions, and the many ways we choose to see the world.
