“I AM…”

Who are you? I am…

“I am” is a declaration rather than a definition. This exhibition brings together young female artists working across painting, sculpture, and mixed media, each asserting presence on their own terms.

Collectively, the works resist fixed narratives, instead offering moments of becoming, self-authorship, and soft rebellion. On International Women’s Day, “I am” stands as both a statement and an invitation to see, to listen, and to acknowledge women as they name themselves.

The practices of Ogara Akachukwu, Carolyn Useh, Kashim Falilat, Ololade Adekanmbi, Ezechukwu CG "Blu, " Queen Olorundare, and Adesoye Similoluwa “Sakoa” unfold as intimate yet expansive meditations on identity. Through layered surfaces, gestural figuration, and symbolic abstraction, these artists navigate themes of memory, spirituality, body politics, lineage, and personal mythmaking.

In their hands, the canvas becomes a site of reclamation, sculpture transforms into embodied testimony, and mixed media gestures toward multiplicity. This is a refusal to be singular. Each work speaks from a place of lived experience yet transcends the personal to touch on shared histories of womanhood, resilience, vulnerability, and power.

There is softness here, but not fragility. There is introspection but not silence. The exhibition moves between tenderness and assertion, between the visible and the withheld. It acknowledges the complexity of being young, female, and contemporary.

“I am” does not seek to resolve identity; it insists on its fluidity. It understands that becoming is ongoing. That self-definition is radical. To say “I am” without apology, without qualification, is an act of authorship.

Together, these artists remind us that womanhood is not a monolith but a constellation. Each voice is distinct. Each presence is undeniable. Each work is a statement: I am here. I am becoming. I am. “I AM... ”
